Let's Wear Our Hijab Properly

Assalamualaikum and a very good day to everyone.

Bismillah.

Pic: Former Malaysian artist, Waheeda looks good in a proper hijab.

I keep thinking about what I should do to help my Muslim sisters who are wearing hijab but NOT WEARING it PROPERLY. Sometimes I saw and met new Muslim converts who adorned PROPER HIJAB not like some of our sisters who are born Muslims. It is more difficult to advice the born Muslims because they would think that I was trying to judge them and by advising them I'm telling everyone that I am better. I'm sorry, that's not my intention. But it is my amanah to help.

Pic: Malay teens look nice in traditional 'baju kurung' and hijab.

I am just trying TO HELP. What's the point of us wearing the hijab but not properly? And I believe that all of us wearing the hijab is to gain Allah's love and rewards. Or... are you just put the hijab on because of everyone is in hijab this days and there are so many different styles to do it?

Come on sisters, are we putting the hijab just because of that? I thought we want TO PLEASE ALLAH.

Pic showing Malaysian Muslimahs wearing proper hijab.

I won't go far. Here, everywhere I can see so many hijabi who are NOT wearing PROPER HIJAB. Remember sisters, there's no point wearing it if it's not proper. Don't say this, "hey... at least I wear hijab." NO, you are lying to yourself. ISLAM teaches us to do things as GOOD as we can do JUST FOR ALLAH's SAKE.

Pic: This is sweet and for me proper and modest.

Please avoid wearing the 'TUDUNG' because:
  • you looks pretty in it
  • someone says it makes you look younger and prettier
  • your parents force you
  • it's a religious activity that you are attending
  • to respect the 'majlis'
  • everyone is wearing it etc etc etc
Pic of a beautiful sisters of a family.

Let's CORRECT OUR INTENTION. It's not right and not good for our Muslim image. PLEASE ... let's wear proper hijab so that ISLAM will not be confused because of our behaviour. Listen to what BABA ALI has to say about this. I agree with what he said.

I LOVE all my Muslim sisters and I really want to help you with this little 'ilm that I know. Although I'm a niqabi, I won't say it is compulsory and just wearing proper hijab with modest clothing, is just fine. Our intention should be just because of HIM.

For the sake of Allah and because I love my sisters in Islam.

Asalaam walikum, I totally agree with you sis mashAllah! A lot of us fall into wearing hijab improperly because see how others dress or do not know what is proper hijab. And on top of that not wearing it for the sake of Allah, oh and not to mention that hijab is not just clothing but behavior as well. So if your not modest in behavior its not likely that your going to dress modestly either. But one thing thats a good pic of proper hijab....but to reach a more umm younger crowd could you find a more fashionable pic of proper hijab?

Assalamualaikum sis,

The never ending battle. Sigh~ ... Personally, I have friends telling me they want to wear hijab, seeing me in one. It's good, but the purpose is not entirely to please God. It's more or less because of peer/family/society pressure. Sad sad case ... I believe there is no compulsion to religion. Even though we must wear hijab, but if the heart is not at its right place ... that's what we get. Hijabis that are not in hijab. :(

Wa'alaikumsalam Almallena,
Thanks sis for your comment and I think both of us understand what's proper hijab and what's not. Regarding the pic, actually I was still looking for a few more examples and most needed is a bit fashionable for teens but it take quite a long time to google. I'll try my best.

Wa'alaikumsalam Hajar,
Yes, you are right, this is the never ending battle. Agree. Maybe because Allah would want us to do our part in dakwah. If not, life would really be too easy. Insya-Allah our friends who tend to wear hijab for the sake of everything else, one day will be a proper hijabi.

Wa'alaikumsalam Nur,
I'm not finding any excuses sis and what I'm saying not my intention is judging their appearance. But my intention of helping them to wear proper hijab is correct. And you are right, this advice is up to you to accept it or not. I was only hoping for the best. I'm afraid that Allah will penalize my good deeds because I didn't share with others what I know about Islam, as little as it is.
Thank you Nur for your comment and I pray that one day you'll find love to put on hijab because of Allah. But hijabi or not, I love to be your friend.

Wa'alaikumsalam Sha,

That guy, Baba Ali is really funny but I like his approach too.

Assalamualaikum sis. Exactly. Approaching people for da'wah especially on this issue is quite difficult, as people have varied opinions, often leading to backlashing if not handled carefully. Btw, thanks for the Baba Ali vid. He cracks me up all the time, but I seriously love his approach. So laid-back, yet with so much truth. :)

Wa'alaikumsalam Hajar,
That's why working for da'wah needs to be done with friends or in groups so that our lack of tactics or approach can be covered by others in hope that our sisters gradually will understand. And I really like that men such as TG Nik Aziz and Baba Ali took an interest in this hijab issues. I think they know that it is also their responsibility.

I was laughing al along watching that Baba Ali.

Salaam KakChik,

Sometimes I think our muslim sisters need someone to remind them about their dressing. I used to wear hijab with my 'emo pants' which is a pair of skinny jeans and think "Hey, I look really good in this" (and I still think I look good in emo pants but not with hijaab lol) but none of my sisters ever come up to me to advise me about my dressing.

It is good that you are continuously informing them about proper hijaab. We should all do our part no matter how small the effort may be.

Salam,
I have written an ebook on hijab styles which cover the chest and easy to do, even for new Muslims. My intention is to share with new sisters, especially in the west who may not have a lot of references unlike us in Malaysia where we have hijab styling classes and books. It is available at www.EasyHijabStyles.com
